hello my fellow bright and twisted friends,

my sincerest apologies for the very looonnggg delay in updates! while the winter months are some of the slower ones, we don’t slow up a bit!

it’s been a whirlwind of a season, and even though we cannot wait for art fairs to begin, we are very excited to announce:

brightly twisted has gone national!

while attending fashion market in las vegas, tammy was approached by monica barthelotti, of aqua showroom (see website homepage for details). just a few weeks later, she signed a contract with aqua showroom for exclusive sales representation! aqua showroom will be displaying brightly twisted in both the dallas and los angeles upcoming markets. 

so wish us luck!

i will update again soon… until then, let’s all count down the days until summertime… ahhh, summertime

lately, i’ve been thinking a lot about choices.

without knowing it, we make choices that deeply affect not only ourselves, but the people closest to us. we like to think that our lives are our own, that pursuing our dream and our goals are the highest good. i do believe that this is true, but i am afraid that this idea is often misunderstood…

our choices, our attitudes, even our thoughts, have a profound impact on… well, at least someone. sometimes there is only one person who will feel the aftereffects of the decisions we make. sometimes, there are many people.

however, these people, if they are the kind of people worth the effort, are the people who should be most supportive, most encouraging, and most understanding of whatever decision we so choose to make. granted, the choices that we make affect them. but their response to our choices affect us.

i don’t mean that people should live for the sake of another human being. i don’t believe that to be true at all. all i think is that people forget how intertwined we all are. at the end of the day, all we have is each other. humans need love in their life, more than anything. more than air.

so trust that the world is unfolding as it should. believe that the people in your life love you enough to support your decisions, and if they do not, ask yourself why. is it for a selfish reason that they are fighting me? or is it perhaps, because my plan is flawed?

trust each other. be honest. love deeply and never go to bed angry.

granted, this is seeminly unrelated to the world of brightly twisted, but developing a business within a family is quite challenging. remembering these thoughts are the reasons why i love them all so much. we are so connected, beyond blood, beyond living circumstances. we are connected by a commong goal: that this idea, this small business… could maybe be something bigger than we can imagine.

on another note, as the holiday season approaches, i want all the patrons of brightly twisted to know how incredibly grateful we are for the support and enthusiasm we’ve received from all of you.

hello!

i have to apologize for my brief alias - we’ve been keeping very busy in our little workshop!

first things first: i’d like to thank everyone who attended the open house at dancing eye. it was a very successful evening and we are all so thrilled that so many of our awesome customers were able to make it!

also, the new website quickly approaches. i think that i will have it finished by the end of the week! although, this is brightly twisted, so i could be acting naively hopeful…

sadly, this is going to have to be a short entry. i just wanted to deliver the update - more news to come, i promise!

so, the online store.

it is in a constant state of development and renovation and i would like to thank everyone for their patience during this whole process. while we are near-experts in the art-fair circuit, the online world is still a bit of a mystery… for the most part, we are teaching ourselves how to manage both a website and an online store. luckily, our friend doris has been hugely helpful in managing what we have accomplished so far. god knows we’d be completely lost without her!

on that note, we seem to be fortunate enough to have a lot of very helpful and talented people around us… our brilliant and tech-savvy friend (my sister’s godfather) chad theriot will soon be totally revamping the website! in the not-so-distant future, the website and the store will merge into one, which should make the site itself much more user-friendly.

and i PROMISE, more pieces are coming! we naively hoped that every piece could be photographed on an actual human-being, as opposed to a mannequin. however, we soon realized that if we were ever to have more than 50 pieces for sale online, that dream would be virtually impossible to keep up with. so, we are just going to have to let that go and bite the bullet. as soon as we have found the PERFECT mannequin (hey, i do still have some dreams) we will bring a ton of new pieces online!

***on another note, November 7th marks the opening of our work in the dancing eye gallery (www.dancingeye.com) we are SO excited about this new venture. there will be a little opening party on the 7th at the northville location - 7pm. we hope you can make it there and get a chance to see tammy and greg’s latest work!

my colleague and great friend zack mckeever has created an introductory film to our world. it is one of what will hopefully be a series of brightly twisted documentaries. being volume one, breaking the mold: a brightly twisted film experiment discusses the inevitable stereotypes and cliches that are associated with the word “tie-dye.”

we are, in fact, breaking a mold. because brightly twisted is about so much more than just tie-dye… we genuinely love what we do.

tammy and greg are inspirations. their talent and creativity amaze me on a daily basis. they work tirelessly, sometimes eighteen hours a day, creating the sensational works of art that you see online and at the art fairs. they are painfully humble about their work - in fact, when they read this, they will most likely shake their heads, blush, and immediately call me to “set me straight.”

it’s for that reason that i am here, spreading the word about the two of them:

tammy is my mother, my friend, and the most remarkable woman i know. she has taken brightly twisted to a level that we all have only ever imagined. she has drive, motivation, and incredible courage. she braved an unknown world when she became a part of brightly twisted, and i am so proud of her.

i am so grateful for the influence greg has played in our lives. he is one of the most talented individuals i’ve ever known. this business was his creation and it is because of his passion that tammy had the strength to take brightly twisted from a tie-dye business to a designer clothing line. he taught her everything she knows and without him, none of this could have been possible.

tammy and greg together are like a force of nature. i’ve never seen two people work so well together. they have mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work that is unprecedented in my small world.

so,

to the supporters and patrons of brightly twisted:

thank you for seeing what i see. your enthusiasm regarding brightly twisted is the ultimate reward for all of our hard work. if you had not embraced us the way that you did, we would never have had the courage to take this business to the next level.

on that note…

while we are developing this online world, i’d like to share with you my idea for this blog. i am hoping that this can become a place where we can all communicate and share our love of brightly twisted. i know it sounds a little silly, but i feel very strongly that it is more than just a clothing line. brightly twisted is a state of mind.
